Relative volume: busy does not mean bullish
Relative volume compares trading activity with a reference average. It tells you to investigate attention, not to buy the stock or assume you know why it moved.

Ask which clock the number uses
Session volume and a five-minute bar answer different questions. A partial trading day compared with a whole-day average is not the same as a comparison with the same time on earlier days. Check the provider definition, denominator and trading session before comparing stocks.
Connect the activity to evidence
Open the company filings and read the publication date. An earnings release, financing announcement or other disclosure may be relevant, but a nearby date is not proof that it caused the move. If no source explains the activity, say the cause is unknown.
A useful trick: change only one filter
Save your starting screen. Raise the relative-volume threshold while keeping company size and price unchanged. Inspect which companies disappear and why. This tests your shortlist, not a strategy's historical returns.
A question worth asking
Does 3x relative volume predict a rising price?
No. Buyers and sellers both participate in volume. Price direction, liquidity, timing and independent evidence still matter; high volume can accompany a decline.
